Vertical air circulation creates more balance in the greenhouse

2 minutes reading

In greenhouse horticulture, the importance of a uniform greenhouse climate is now widely recognized. Whether it’s about temperature distribution, humidity control, or energy efficiency, a stable indoor climate forms the foundation for healthy, uniform crops and efficient production. In addition to the commonly used horizontal air circulation, there is also the option of vertical air circulation, which is particularly effective for tall or dense crops. We spoke with Lisa Hermans, Horticulture Sector Specialist at Vostermans Ventilation, about the benefits of vertical air movement and the role of the Multifan V-FloFan in this story.

Why vertical air circulation?

“Vertical air circulation creates airflow between dense crops and ensures that the lower parts of the greenhouse are also reached,” Lisa explains. “This air movement prevents moisture from settling or condensing on the plants, reducing the risk of pathogens developing and spreading. At the same time, good air circulation contributes to an even distribution of temperature and humidity throughout the greenhouse, just like horizontal ventilation.”
The V-FloFan, therefore, is not an addition to horizontal ventilation, but a different method altogether.

The Multifan V-FloFan was developed in cooperation with greenhouse specialists to create vertical air movement. This ensures that air gently penetrates the crop, even in dense or tall plantings. This helps reduce disease pressure and results in healthier plants.

The power of the V-FloFan in practice

A single V-FloFan provides air movement over an area of up to 250 m². According to Lisa, the added value of the V-FloFan lies in several practical features:

  • Uniform climate: “The fan creates a uniform temperature and humidity through circulation, keeping the climate consistent across the entire growing area.”
  • Even crop growth: “A stable macro- and microclimate contributes to stronger plants and lower disease pressure.”
  • Flexible installation: “With optional mounting brackets, the V-FloFan can be easily installed in various greenhouse structures.”
  • Moisture-resistant: “Thanks to corrosion-resistant materials, the fan is durable, even in humid or condensation-prone greenhouses.”

Lisa explains: “With proper calculation and installation of the required number of fans, plant wetness can be effectively prevented. There’s no need for more expensive alternative systems to control humidity.”

Data-driven Decisions

Lisa emphasizes that more and more growers are using high-tech measuring systems and climate computers, and that air circulation is often an underestimated factor in this. “Among customers using V-FloFans, we not only see visibly healthier crops but also improved measurements in terms of humidity and temperature distribution.”
